Join us on Saturday 20th October for our first social event at the rooms for season 2012/2013. Entertaining the crowd will be local band Waiting on Monday featuring two of our junior players Tyler O\'Brien & Darcy Brice. See attached flyer for more details.

As we prepare to kick off the 2012/13 season this is a night for all those affiliated with the club to come together for a bit of food, a few bevvies and some great conversation as we anticipate what an exciting season we have ahead of us.

We have exclusive use of the beer garden for this night . Finger food will be provided and drinks may be purchased at bar prices.

Wednesday 29th August 2012 from 4.30pm to 6.00pm at the club rooms at Richmond Oval, East Geelong.

JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP FEES
Memberships this season will be:
- Under 11’s: $60 per player
- Under 13’s, 15’s and 17’s: $90 per player
- Two or more players per family: $160 per family

Welcome to season 2012/13 and its great to see that we are back in the top flight after a fantastic finish to last season with the 1st Eleven winning the flag in Division 2. While we are still in winter it is now time to turn our attention away from the football and back to the cricket.
Firstly I would like to advise that Graeme Beaumont has again accepted the position of coach of the club for Season 2012/13. Adam Pitts has also been reappointed as captain of the 1st Eleven. This is an excellent outcome for the club as both Graeme and Adam have been instrumental in the success that we have experienced in the last 2 years. They are both well qualified to lead us back to Division One.
The Club has also secured the services of an Overseas player this season, Nilantha Cooray, will join us from Sri Lanka in October. Nilantha has an impressive record in first class cricket as a spin bowler and middle order batsmen. I am sure all at the club will make him feel welcome when he arrives.

We are now ready to move into Pre-Season Training and the following dates have been allocated;

Geelong City White U15’s

Geelong City lost their first game of the new season to Highton at South Barwon by 21 runs. In week one Alexander Verikios was the standout bowler for City after Highton won the toss and elected to bat. Alexander took 4 wickets in 6 outstanding over for just 18 runs and was only inches away from claiming a hat-trick. He was well supported by the other bowlers notably Jack Abrehart on debut claiming 3 for 14 off his six overs. Highton were all out for 137 with Brett Blair their stand out performer with 63 runs. It was a unique bowing performance by City with all players bowling at least an over each.

In response City lost 3 early wickets to the Highton opening bowlers before a brilliant stand of 80 between Jack Driver and Ben Webb put City back in to contention before Ben was out for 29 and Jack retired after making 55. Thereafter wickets fell regularly as the run rate increased and the overs began to run out as City fell 21 runs short of their target.

It was a good performance by the boys despite the result with plenty of positives, but I am sure the boys will work hard in preparation for next weeks game.

The G.C.C.C. will be holding a social evening at Eureka on Friday, September 30th, to launch the 2011/12 season. All junior parents, senior members, family and friends are invited to attend this event which will start at 7:30 pm.
Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night at a cost of 50 dollars. Entrance includes beer, wine and champagne, accompanied by finger food, from 7:30 - 11 pm. In addition, cocktails will be available for the first hour of the evening to calm those pre-grand final nerves. This is sure to be a great night and we look forward to seeing you there.

A note to all players that this Sunday morning we will be heading down to Richmond Crescent for preseason training. A.J.C Rolfe would like all senior players stretched and supple for a 9:15 start.

The Geelong City Cricket Club would like to welcome all current and prospective junior players and their families to the upcoming 2011/12 season. With round 1 only weeks away the club would like to invite all juniors and their parents to our registration night.

Junior registration night will be held at Richmond Crescent on Wednesday, September 7th, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.

The Geelong City Cricket Club will be hosting a BBQ in the Eastern Gardens at 12 noon on Sunday July 31st

All players and fußball enthusiasts are welcome to attend a social game of soccer at 11am on Eastern Gardens pitch 5 (see map attached).

All players, partners and families are welcome to attend a BBQ following this at midday. The club will be supplying sausages, hamburgers and some basic salads

The coaching group will be making full use of Teamer to manage player and team communications this year. Turf players would have received some text message notifications last year through this management system. This year we plan to have all players from all grades registered with Teamer in order to make coordinating training and events easier.

If you have not already received text messages regarding preseason training, please email your name and mobile number to Adam Pitts (adam@inmatic.com). Once registered you can update your profile on and participate in the team blog.

It might be settling in to winter, but I know everyone is already starting to think about cricket. This is the time of year old pros like Chunk and Bear are upping their fitness levels and preparing for the rigors of a new cricket season. Even the Bugman is spending some time away from his insects in an attempt to add a few yards and another slower bowl to his repute.

So out of concern for Sam Parry doing anything unsupervised, we have finalised the preseason. For the full outline see attached .pdf.

Optional fitness sessions at Eastern Beach will be held from Thursday 21st July, with our indoor session commencing Sunday 7th August.

A social gathering is also pencilled in for Sunday 31st July. Details of this will be announced shortly.

In a boost for the First XI, Gary Knackers Iacono, Geelong Crickets premier team scorer/manager, looks set to sign on again for season 2010/2011. Gary has performed the job for the last two years before a small break towards the end of last year to recharge his batteries.

Also, again reportedly helping out the First XI with afternoon tea preparations will be Jenny Elliot, Jen Agg, Liz Down and Kerri Iacono.

All the players would like to thank in advance the contribution these people will make throughout the year. Efforts of these people will go a long way to helping improve our performance on field.

The Second XI would also appreciate a team scorer/manager, if you are interested in this role or helping out any team on game day, please contact Tim Down or Kent Agg.

Welcome to this cricket season which is now fast approaching. Great to see so many at our Registration Night, for those who couldn’t make it please just come along to Training night. Please note, the training dates below may change once final numbers are confirmed.

NEW Geelong City coach Graeme Beaumont has his sights firmly set on returning the Sharks to Geelong crickets top flight.

Beaumont has joined the Sharks after spending the past three years in New Zealand coaching under-15 players at Wellingtons Scotts College.

The former Geelong, North Geelong and St Josephs star said he would focus on developing the Sharks youngsters in a bid to build the club up again. He will also dust off the whites to captain the clubs 2nd XI in a move to pass on his experience to the clubs future firsts players.

Assistant coach Adam Pitts, who will captain the clubs 1st XI, said he looked forward to taking the reigns and hinted at a role change in the batting order this season.

Ive been an assistant for a while but its always good to step up Pitts said.

Geelong City Cricket Club Presentation Night

Geelong City Cricket Club is proud to announce ex-player and Geelong Socialite Billy Brownless as the number one ticket holder for the upcoming season.

Billy is excited by the prospect of journeying back to the Crescent to share a frothie with old teammates, reminisce about his exploits with the willow that earned him first XI batting awards in the early 90s and cast his discerning eye over the next crop of stars.

After the successful celebrations of 80 Years of Cricket from the Geelong City Cricket Club, the club has gathered together on DVD, photos of players and memorabilia dating back many years. Anyone interested in a copy can contact the club. A short version will also be available for download from the website soon. In preparation for the historic celebration, the club was able to properly formulate the full history of the club. This will also appear on the website soon. The club would like to thank all past members for attending the night and those who put in such a great effort to ensure the evenings success.
